1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup coconut
1 cup gum drops
2 cup oatmeal
2 beaten eggs
1 cup ground pecans - optional

Directions:
Directions:
Beat shortening till soft. Beat in sugar and vanilla. Sift flour with salt,
baking powder and soda. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of flour mix over coconut, gumdrops
and oatmeal. Beat sifted ingredients into shortening mixture in about 2
parts alternating with 2 beaten eggs. Stir in gumdrop mix. Roll in 1 inch
balls. Flatten with fork and dip in milk. Bake at 350º for 10 min.

Mom made these all the time, but especially at Christmas. She also made sure to make a batch for Wayne every year for his birthday. They're still a family favorite.
