Mix thoroughly:
1 C soft shortening
2 C brown sugar, packed
2 eggs

Stir in 1/2 C sour milk or buttermilk

Sift together and stir in:
3 1/2 C sifted flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

Stir in:
1 1/2 C broken pecan pieces
2 C mixed candied citrus peel, chopped
2 C chopped dates



Directions:
Directions:
Chill at least 1 hour. Drop by rounded teaspoonful about 2 in apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. May place pecan half on top of each cookie. Bake at 400º for 8-10 minutes or until set. When toughed lightly almost no imprint remains.
Makes about 6 dozen
