Ingredients:  
2/3 c water (warm)
2 pkgs yeast
1 tsp. sugar - sprinkle over yeast and let work
Add:
2 1/2 c warm water
1/2 c sugar
4 tbsp. melted shortening
1 tbsp. salt
Add about 4 1/2 c plain flour
1/2 to 1 c self-rising flour to make stiff dough

Oil top of dough with melted shortening and put bowl in a sink of hot water to let rise.
Put out on floured board and knead.
Pinch off and put in pan and let rise until double in bulk

FOR CINNAMON ROLLS USE SAME RECIPE
Roll dough into rectangle.
Brush with 1/2 stick of melted butter.
Spread sugar, cinnamon and white syrup
Pour other 1/2 stick of butter over it.
Roll up and cut.
