Ingredients:
1/4 cup shortening or oil
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup flour
2-3 T. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
1 egg

Directions:
Directions:
If you like a crunchy outer edge on your cornbread, put the 1/4 cup oil or shortening in a heavy pan you are going to use for baking the bread. Let it heat while preheating the oven. Take the pan out and pour the hot oil into the batter and mix it in. Then pour the batter into the pan and bake.

Mix all ingredients together. Bake at 400º for 20 - 25 minutes.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
An iron skillet makes the best cornbread but my club aluminum has made many a great pan of bread.
