4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 tbsp. lard
2 tbsp. shortening
1-1/4 cups tepid water

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl mix flour with salt and baking powder. Cut in the shortening and lard with a pastry cutter. Slowly add tepid water. Knead the dough and cut into fourths. Cut the fourths into six equal pieces so that you have 24 pieces. Roll them into balls about the size of large eggs. Roll flat and thin.

To cook, brown slightly on a dry frying pan or griddle. Makes 24 tortillas.

This recipe is from the cookbook of the Women's Committee of the Symphony Society of San Antonio.

You may use 1/4 cup lard and eliminate the shortening. It may not be heart healthy but it will add flavor and make the dough more workable. Do not eliminate the lard, however, since that will make the dough too hard to work.
