Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lb. ground beef (15% fat is ok)
1/2 lb ground pork
1 1/2 cups old fashioned oat meal (uncooked)
2 eggs (beaten)
1 1/3 cups milk
2 t. salt
1 t pepper
1 small onion, chopped fine (about 1/2 to 1/3 cups).

Directions:
Directions:
Pre heat oven to 350 F

In a large bowl combine all ingredients lightly but thoroughly. In my mother's kitchen this was always done with hands, I still do, but now I use food prep or medical gloves.

Pat mixture into 2 medium loaf pans, or several minis, or whatever size and shape takes your fancy.

Bake uncovered until done, 1 hr for medium pans. Others you will have to use your judgement. Times could range from 1 hour 15 minutes to 25 minutes. There should be no pink color remaining in the center of the loaf. Add a glaze of catsup or barbecue sauce for the last 15 minutes.

Let sit in the pans for at least 5 minutes before slicing.

Personal Notes:
I'm sure this recipe was based on the one printed for years on the Quaker Oats boxes, but my mother made it her own, using various amounts of different ground meats and adding everything from diced green chilis to chopped mushrooms and olives. You can hardly go wrong if you keep the proportions of meat, milk, oats and egg in line.
