Ingredients: 1 chicken or desired parts salt water milk flour salt pepper Crisco

Directions: |
Directions:Rinse chicken and/or pieces and soak overnight in salt water.
Pat dry.
Dredge pieces of chicken in milk then in the mixture of flour, salt and pepper; coating well.
Drop in hot Crisco grease (350º) turning only once.
Cook fast.
Can put in oven to finish cooking.
Gravy: Add about 1/2 cup each of drippings and flour and fry until the flour dissolves. Add salt and pepper to taste then add milk and stirr until smooth (add enough milk to thicken but not too thick). |

Notes: "Mom, ( Granny to our kids ) and her sister Nelda were the best chicken fryers that I ever knew. I can remember as a child visiting Aunt Nelda in Greenville, Il. She raised her own chickens (as most did back then in the 1950-60's ). In the morning she would pick out 1-3 chickens from coop, behead them, clean them and soak them and we would have the best chicken ever for supper that night along with the BEST chicken gravy ever. --Mom
