2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
6 cups flour (5 cups for batter, 1 cup to roll out)
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º F.

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, sift together all dry ingredients. Add dry stuff alternately with milk. Beat until the dough is about the consistency of biscuits. Chill dough for one hour.

Sprinkle flour on counter. Separate dough into thirds and roll into balls. Using a rolling pin, roll out dough until it is about 1/8 inch or so thick. Cut out with cookie cutters of choice and place on cookie sheet.

Cook until firm to touch but not brown. Remove from oven. Carefully transfer to wire racks to cool then decorate.
