1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/4 cups all purpose flour
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoons salt 1 cup milkk
8 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy; add vanilla. Combine dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Fold in egg whites.

Spoon batter into 4 paper-lined and greased 9 inch cake pans. Bake a t 375 about 20 minutes. Allow the cakes to cool in pans 5 minutes; then turn out on racks to cool completely.

Spread Lane Frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake. Cake is best if stored several days before serving.
