4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. mace
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1-1/2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. baking powder
2 T. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
4 egg yolks, well beaten
1 c. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Combine the first 6 ingredients and sift 3 times. Cream sugar and shortening until well blended. Add egg yolks and milk and mix well. Add sifted dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. With as little handling as possible, roll dough on floured board to desired thickness. Let dough stand for 20 min. Cut with cutter and fry in deep hot fat (375 degrees) until brown, turning when first crack appears. Drain on absorbent paper. Cool, then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
