BATTER
Mix together (in a very large bowl):
1 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla

In a separate bowl, mix together these dry ingredients:
6 c. flour
4 1/2tsp. baking soda
1 c. plus 2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tbsp. salt

3 cups of milk set aside

FILLING: (Kim's version)
2 c. shortening (3 c.)
4 c. confectioner's sugar (6 c.)
2 c. marshmallow (3 c.)
1 tbsp. vanilla (1 1/2tbsp.)
A little milk - start with 1/4c. and add a little more if needed (3/8c.)

Directions:
Directions:
Alternate mixing some of the dry ingredients into the large bowl with some of the milk. Keep alternately mixing until everything is mixed together in the large bowl.

Drop by tablespoon-fulls onto non-stick cookie sheet. Bake each batch for about 8-10 minutes, (or until a toothpick comes out clean).

Let cool and then fill.
