Ingredients:  
1 c shortening
1 c brown sugar
1 egg
½ c hot water
1 tsp baking soda
3 c flour
Vanilla
Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and hot water to which soda is dissolved. Then flour and vanilla. Roll into balls and press with fork.
Ungreased pan, moderate oven. Make into sandwich cookies with jam inbetween.
