2 cups brown sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp soda in 1 T water
1 cup chopped nuts
Pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
In a bowl, cream the shortening and brown sugar.
Add egg and vanilla, beat well.
Combine dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Stir in nuts.
On a lightly floured surface, shape the dough into three 10 inch by 1 inch rolls. Tightly wrap each roll in waxed paper. Freeze for at least 12 hours.
Preheat oven to 375º. Cut into 3/8 inch slices and place on greased baking sheets. Bake at 375º for 12 - 15 minutes. Remove to a wire rack to cool.
