1 cup sweet milk
6 eggs
4 cups self rising flour
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup black walnuts
1 cup raisins
1 TBS vanilla extract
1 cup blackberry jam
1/2 cup grape juice

Frosting for jam cake:
4 cups sugar
1 cup sweet milk
1 cup butter
1 cup black walnuts
1 cup raisins
1 TBS vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
For cake:
Cream butter, sugar, eggs, blackberry jam and vanilla. Add flour and milk, beginning and ending with milk. Fold in walnuts and raisins. Bake in three round cake pans, which have been greased and floured. Cool in pans 15 min and then turn out on cake rack to finish cooling. When cake is ready for icing, brush each layer liberally with grape juice as you stack them and before icing them

For frosting:
Cook sugar, milk and butter until thick. Let cool slightly, stirring occasionally. Add walnuts, raisins and vanilla. Mix well and ice cake.

My mother made this delicious cake every Christmas. It is a very old recipe that she got in 1955 from a friend, Bernice Wiggly.
