3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
21/2 cups rolled oats
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 salt
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar, shortening; add add and mix. Stir together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture. Add chocolate chips. Roll into balls. Bake at 350º F until a light brown. If overcooked they will be too crunchy with a hard centre.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This was really the only cookie recipe of Mom's that I really liked. I decreased the sugar content by 1/2 cup and the shortening by 1/4 cup. Margarine will work too but it makes the cookies more chewy than crunchy.
