FILLING (Do this first)

½ cup water
1 lb. dates
½ cup sugar

DOUGH

1 cup shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
4 cups flour
3 eggs
salt

Directions:

FILLING (Do this first)

Mix and cook until thick. Let cool before
spreading on rolled cookie dough.

DOUGH

Cream butter and sugar add beaten eggs and
vanilla. Add flour, baking soda and salt. Roll
to about 1/3" thick and spread with filling.
Roll up like a jelly roll. Refrigerate overnight. Slice
and bake on greased pan. Bake at 350º for 12 minutes.

Flora Dysinger was Barbara's cousin, Aunt Grace's youngest daughter. She looked like Georgia O'Keefe and was the cool, fun cousin. She had two boys, Rick and Ross. They lived in a great old farm house in Port Huron.
