2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 cup shortening
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tbs. vinegar dissolved in ½ cup milk
about 4 cups flour to make a stiff dough


DATE FILLED VERSION

8 oz. chopped dates
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Directions:
Directions:
Mix all ingredients, chill, then roll on
floured board to ¼ inch thick. Cut into
desired shapes. Bake 350º until light
brown. Cool on rack. Frost and decorate if desired.

DATE FILLED VERSION

Boil water, dates and sugar until thickened. Careful not to scorch.
Place 1 round cut cookie (as in sugar cookie recipe) on cookie sheet,
place about 1 tbs. date mixture in center, top
with another cookie, lightly seal edges.
Bake at 350º until light brown. Cool on rack.
