5 ½ cups sugar
1 cup cornstarch
2 teaspoons cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
8 cups water
3 Tablespoons lemon juice
Yellow food coloring
Apples (enough slices to fill your 7 quart jars)
Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 5 ingredients and stir in 8 cups of water. Cook until thick and bubbly. Add lemon juice and food coloring (if desired). Peel and skin apples. Fill jars with apple slices; pour syrup over them. Adjust lids. Process in canner for 20 minutes. Boil water.
