3/4 c shortening (Crisco)
1 c brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c molasses
2 1/4 c flour
2 t. soda
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. ground ginger
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/4 t. salt
Granulated sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses until fluffy. (about 2-3 min)
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt.
Gradually stir in flour mixture to sugar mixture until blended.
Chill for one hour.
Preheat oven to 375º
Scoop dough into round balls. Dip tops of cookies in sugar.
Bake 10-12 min.
Immediately remove from cookie sheet.
