1/2 c. soft shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together shortening, sugar and egg.

Stir in buttermilk and vanilla.

Sift together flour, soda, salt. Stir into wet ingredients.

Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Bake at 400º for 8 - 10 minutes

I used to make these cookies all the time when I was a kid. When we went back to visit Grandma and Grandpa in Missouri I wrote the recipe down so I could make it for them. I lost the paper and Grandma helped me look for it. Eventually, she asked me what was in the recipe. I told her one-half cup shortening, one cup sugar... I had made the cookies so many times I had memorized the recipe!
