3/4 cup shortening
1 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Melt shortening in saucepan over low heat. (you can use Crisco instead of lard) Remove from heat and cool.
Add sugar, molasses and egg, to shortening beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and salt. Add to first mixture.
Chill dough. Form 1 inch round cookie balls, roll in granulated sugar.
Flatten with a glass which has been dipped in sugar. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
