1/2 Cup butter
1/2 Cup shortening
1/2 Cup sugar
1/2 Cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
2 Tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 Cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/8 to 1/4 tsp. red paste food coloring
Canned creamy white frosting
Blue decorator icing

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixer bowl beat butter with sugars until fluffy. Add egg, milk, and vanilla, beat well.
Stir together flour, salt, and soda; gradually add to butter mixture until well mixed.
Divide dough in half. To one half, add red food coloring.
Put waxed paper in bottom and up sides of 8x4x2 inch loaf pan. Press half of the red dough evenly into the pan. Top with half of the plan dough, patting evenly. Repeat red and plain layers, patting evenly.
Cover. Freeze at least 4 hours.
Lift dough out of pan. With a sharp knife, slice dough crosswise into 1/4 inch thick slices. Place slices 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden. (Or 300 degrees for 15-18 minutes.) Remove to a (wire rack or ) brown paper bag to cool.
In upper left corner of each cookie, spread a 1 inch square of blue frosting, decorate with stars in white frosting.
