1 C Sugar
1/2 C shortening
2 Eggs
3 Banana - Dead ripe - mashed
1/4 T Salt
2 C All purpose Flour
1 t Baking Powder
1 t Baking Soda
8 T Water
1 t Vanilla
2/3 C Chopped Nuts - Optional

Directions:

Cream Shortening, Eggs, then add mashed banana and vanilla,
then add dry ingredients, then add the water by hand, NO MIXER

Trust me, while to some it may seem old fashioned to do it this way, but for some reason following it as written makes a much better banana bread.

Grease and flour your loaf pan - Do not use cooking spray for this recipe.

Bake in 350 degree oven - yes do preheat your oven!
About 45 minutes - may be shorter in today's ovens-
It is done when sticking with a toothpick in center and it comes out dry.

Grandma Stowe live in Warren - at the time - right beside the Fair Grounds, my memories of her include going to the fair as kids and going back to her house and having fresh banana bread! I remember we loaded it up with butter!
