"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Mary Bowie was born on March 10, 1884, in Marksville, Louisiana and died on November 6, 1967. She loved cooking. Our favorite was her tea cakes. She made her cookies with real butter churned from clabber milk. I think Willis was my dad’s parent’s favorite of the seven children because he was born after our father’s death. Our grandmother gave Willis the tea cakes to hand out to the rest of us. My brothers would beg our mom to let them babysit Willis, because he told our grandmother all our business.
