4 cups boiling water
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg, beaten
5 1/2 - 6 cups flour
1 1/2 - 2 tsp. anise oil
2 tsp. anise seeds
1 1/2 tsp. cardamom
Pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over butter and sugar. Cool to lukewarm or cooler. Add flour, one cup at a time and mix thoroughly.
Add beaten egg and flavorings to taste. Let stand overnight.

Bake using a pizzelle maker.

If cakes are too thick, add warm water as necessary to thin batter.
