1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/34 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp soda
1/4 cup buttermilk
3/4 cups chopped pecans
3/4 cup candied fruit chopped
3/4 cups dates chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add well beaten eggs. Sift flour, salt and soda together. Alternate flour and milk to sugar/egg mixture. Fold in nuts, candied fruit and dates. Make soft balls of mixture, place on cookie sheet and flatten with fork. Bake 10 minutes at 350º
