1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour milk, buttermilk or water
2 cups candied dates
3 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups chopped nuts.

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat 1 minute. Blend in milk. Then add sifted dry ingredients and mix. Fold in fruits and nuts and blend.

BAKE in 350º oven until cookies re barely firm, about 10 - 12 minutes.
