1 cup shortening (butter or margarine)
2 cups brown sugar (packed)
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
3-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1-1/2 cups chopped pecans
2 cups candied cherries
2 cups cut-up dates

Directions:

Mix as usual. Add a little of the flour to the fruit.

**In a bowl, cream butter, sugar, eggs, and buttermilk. Sift together flour, salt and soda; add to creamed mixture. Stir in fruits and nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 325° for 15 minutes.
