8 medium apples
8 wooden sticks
3 cups of sugar
1/2 c white Karo syrup
1/2 c water
1 drop oil of cinnamon
1 teas. red food coloring

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and dry and apples and remove the stems. Insert stick in stemmed apples.

Combine sugar, syrup and water in a deep heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture boils, then cook without stirring to soft crack stage (285 on a candy thermometer). Remove from heat, add oil of cinnamon and food coloring, and stir only enough to mix. Hold each apple by stick and quickly twirl in syrup. Allow excess to drip off and set on greased cookie sheet to cool.
