1 1/4 lb. ground beef (or substitute ground turkey)
1/2 c bread crumbs
1/3 c water
3/4 medium onion, grated
1 medium onion, sliced
sprinkles of salt and paprika (to taste)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix beef with bread crumbs, water, and grated onion by hand and form into patties. Sprinkle with salt and/or paprika. Broil with sliced onion around the pan until cooked through (or cook on stovetop).

My grandmother was a wonderful cook, but her recipes for things like strudel and poppy seed cookies were so complicated and required so much skill that no one in the family was able to record them. My mother did write down this recipe for her hamburgers. They tasted delicious, but even more memorable was the mouth-watering smell when you walked into the kitchen as they were being made.
