3 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp allspice
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup or more shelled walnuts
1 cup seedless raisins
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/4 cup (1/2 pint) applesauce
1 tbsp confectioners sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9" tube pan.

Mix all ingredients together (I would cream butter and sugar first, then add dry ingredients and finally mix in nuts and raisins) and it is done when toothpick comes out clean near center of cake or when surface springs back when touched lightly with finger - about 1 hours.
