Christmas Tree Pastry Recipe

4 -4 1/2 C flour divided (2 cups each)
1/2 C sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 pkg dry instant yeast

3/4 C milk
1/2 C unsalted butter
1/2 C water
1 egg slightly Beaten

Filling
2 8 oz softened cream cheese
1/2 C sugar
2 eggs beaten
1/2 tsp ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon
6 T flour
2 T lemon juice (or more depending how tart you want you filling)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt and yeast in large mixing bowl. Set aside.
Combine milk, water and butter in small saucepan. Heat to very warm.
Add milk mixture to dry ingredients and beat at medium speed for 2 minutes
Scrape bowl occasionally.
Stir in remaining 2 cups of flour to make a stiff batter..do not over ass flour.

Cover bowl and chill 8 hours.

Filing:
Beat cream cheese, sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in flour, spices, egg and lemon juice.

Divide dough into three equal portions. Roll each into 11X10" rectangle.
Spread 1/3 of filling over each leaving a 1/2" margin around edges. Carefully roll up Jelly roll style. Cut into 11-12 equal slices using dental floss.
Arrange in triangular shape to make a tree shape. Use the 11th and 12th rolls for trunk.
Cover with waxed paper sprayed with Pam and allow to rise 1 hour or until doubled.

Bake 375º 20-25 minutes drizzle with powdered sugar glaze along with red and green sugar crystals.

Note: 2014 This year I added to the filling rum soaked raisins. I also soaked Cranberries to add to the decoration of the tree.
