1 ham bone - with lots of ham on bone
1 large onion, chopped
3 - 4 potatoes, chopped
1 can Garbanzo beans (chick peas)
1/4 cup butter
Salt and pepper to taste
Pinch of saffron (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Combine ham bone, onions and 4 cups of water. Boil gently 30 minutes. Add potatoes, boil another 20 minutes. Add beans, butter, salt pepper. Remove ham from bone, discard bone, return meat to soup in bite size pieces. Simmer
10 more minutes. For extra special flavor add pinch of saffron.
