3 Tbsp shortening
1 1/2 all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 salt
3/4 cup milk

Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in milk. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto hot meat or vegetables in boiling stew (do not drop directly onto liquid) cook uncovered 10 minutes, cover and cook about 10 minutes longer

you can make different flavours by adding to the dry ingredients
some examples are:
1/4 cup of cheese,
3 tablespoons of parsley or chives diced finely
1/2 tsp of herbs such as: sage, celery seed or thyme
