2 pounds stew meat, cubed
Flour
2 tablespoons oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, pressed
1 ounce dried mushrooms
1 can (15 ounces) Marinara sauce
1/2 cup sherry or red wine
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and pepper to taste

Dredge meat with flour.

Heat oil in a heavy skillet. Saute meat, onion, and garlic until meat is browned.

Combine mushrooms and water in a small saucepan. Heat to boiling. Remove from heat. Drain mushrooms, reserving liquid.

Cut the mushrooms fine. Add the cut mushrooms and the mushroom liquid to the meat.

Add the remaining ingredients to the meat.

Cover and simmer gently, stirring frequently, for about 2 1/2 hours or until the meat is fork-tender.

Add a little more water, if needed, as gravy cooks down.

Serve with polenta.
