1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1/4 cup berry jam

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 325º. Beat together sugar, butter and shortening until fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Gradually add in flour. Form tablespoon size portions of dough into balls. Place on parchment paper on cookie sheet 1-2 inches apart. Press down each cookie ball using the back of a spoon until slightly flattened. Put 1/2 teaspoon of jam into the well on the top of each cookie. Bake for approximately 15 minutes or until bottoms of cookies slightly begin to brown. Cool on wire rack or plate.

I came up with this recipe as a special treat to include with my jams and jellies for my family on Christmas 2014. It is a variation of a simple shortbread recipe. I used my Merry Berry Jam I had canned over the summer for the topping.
