1/3 cup margarine or butter
1/3 cup shortening
2 cups flour
3/4 cup sugar

1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
dash of salt
1 powdered sugar icing recipe

Directions:
In a large bowl, beat margarine and shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed about 30 second or till softened. Add about half of the flour. Add sugar, egg, milk, baking powder, vanilla, and dash of salt. Beat till combined. Beat or stir in remaining flour. Divide dough in half, cover and chill about 3 hours or till easy to handle. On a lightly floured surface, roll each half of the dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Using cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375º oven for 7 to 8 minutes or till done. Cool on cookie sheet for 1 minute. Remove cookies from sheet and cool on wire rack. If desired, frost and decorate.

Personal Notes:
This is my favorite cookie recipe. Perk up cookies with decorative candies, colored sugars or chopped nuts sprinkled on before baking or after icing.
