In the top of a double boiler (or a glass bowl large enough to hold entire contents) set over a pan of simmering water), melt the following:

1 sq. unsweetened chocolate
1/4 lb butter

then add, all at once:

4 eggs
1 pkg confectioners sugar
1 scant cup flour
1 c. chopped nuts
pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla

Bake at 350º for 35 mins. in a 12x8" or 10x10" pan.

In 1975 I worked as nurse consultant for a nursing organization in Danvers, Ma. This recipe came from a cookbook I acquired from them and it has been my "go-to" brownie recipe ever since.
As it says, it is definitely no-fail. Carl reminded me that I brought them with me to Boston once when I visited him before we were married and they came down the baggage shute alone! Guess I hadn't packed them very carefully!!
