2/3 c. dry bread crumbs
1 c. milk
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/4 grated onion
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 tsp of sage (optional)

PIQUANT SAUCE:
3 TBSP brown sugar
4 TBSP catsup
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp dry mustard (do NOT substitute prepared mustard )

Directions:
Directions:
Soak bread crumbs in milk. Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly.
Pack lightly into greased loaf pan and top with sauce.

Combine sauce ingredients and spread over top of meat mixture.

Bake at 350 for about 1 1/4 hours

This is Nan's recipe which I have made for fifty years and it was always enjoyed. I think of her every time I make this. I often put potatoes in the oven to bake while the meatloaf is cooking and both are done together. Only needs a salad then and the meal is done.
