1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
nuts, dates, cherries, chocolate bits, etc.

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening with sugar. Add vanilla. Sift flour and salt and add to the mixture. Roll dough around nuts, dates, cherries, chocolate bits, etc.

Bake at 350 degrees until very lightly browned.

Frost with powdered sugar frosting and decorate, if desired.
