2 tsp salt
½ cup sugar
2 envelopes active dry yeast
¼ cup lukewarm water

Directions:
Scald milk. Add sugar, shortening, and salt. Stir to dissolve. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and add to mild mixture. Beat in enough flour to make a soft dough that can be handled. Knead on a floured board until smooth and elastic, adding more flour as necessary. Place in a greased bowl and grease the top. Cover with a cloth or plastic wrap. Allow to rise in a warm place until doubled (1 to 1 ½ hours). Punch down and let rise 10 minutes. Divide into two equal parts. Roll into rectangles ¼” thick. Spread on melted margarine, brown sugar, and nuts (optional). Cut into 1” thick slices. Place in greased pan and let rise. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 10 – 12 minutes.

GLAZE: 2 Tbsp butter, ½ cup whipping cream or milk, dash salt, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 ½ to 3 cups powdered sugar. Melt butter. Add milk, salt and vanilla. Add confectioners’ sugar and stir to make a thin consistency. While rolls are warm, cover with glaze.
