Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
We used to make this every summer in the big wooden hand-crank ice cream maker. John's secret to success was to use plenty of rock salt between the layers of ice. (The kids got a science lesson about how the salt lowers the freezing temperature of ice, causing the ice to melt, and the melting action pulls the heat out of the adjacent can of cream, causing the contents to freeze faster). All the kids took a turn cranking the ice cream out on the patio, until it got too hard to crank and you knew it was done.
