12 cups apple cider (3 quarts)
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. ground allspice
3 (3") cinnamon sticks
1 orange, studded with whole cloves

Note: Orange juice and/or lemon juice may be substituted for some of the cider-it's all good!

Combine all ingredients in a 4-5 quart slow cooker, cover, and cook on low for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve in mugs.

As guests arrive you'll hear "What smells so good?" I let guests ladle their own from the slow cooker. I had a gallon of cider and added the extra quart as needed. Also floated whole apples and whole allspice berries.
Brandy can be added to spice it up-but delicious without it.
