6 oz. hot Italian chicken sausage
2 c. chopped onioin
1 c. chopped green pepper
8 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb. ground hamburger
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
2 Tbsp. chili powder
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. ground cumin
3 Tbsp. tomato paste
1 tsp. dried oregano
salt and pepper to taste
2 bay leaves
1 1/4 c. merlot or other red wine
2- 28 oz. cans whole tomatoes with juice, chopped
2-14 oz. cans kidney beans, drained

Directions:
Heat a large dutch oven over medium high heat. Remove casings from
sausage. Add sausage, onion, green pepper, garlic, beef and jalapeno to
pot. Cook about 8 minutes, or until sausage and beef are browned, stirring to crumble. Add chili pwd, brown sugar, cumin, tomato paste, oregano, salt, pepper and bay leaves. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Stir in wine, tomatoes and kidney beans. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce
heat and simmer for 1 hour stirring occasionally. Uncover and cook for 30
minutes, stirring occasionally. Discard bay leaves. Garnish each serving
with a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkling of cheese and green onions.
Serves 8-10.
