1 C sugar
1 1/2 sticks butter softened
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 C all purpose flour
1 1/2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
1 t cinnamon
1 t ground ginger
1/2 t ground cloves
Sugar for rolling. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add egg. Sift together flour baking soda,salt and spices. Stir into creamed mixture. Roll dough into balls the size of walnuts. Roll balls in sugar. Place on greases baking sheet.

Tip: lightly oil cup before measuring the molasses and it will pour easily .

Bake @ 350º for 10 minutes.

Mom said that Dad wanted her to make molasses cookies like his Grandmother Carter made. Mom never was able to find a recipe that he said was the same. I found this recipe written on a piece of paper, with her cookbooks .I don't know where it came from but I bet these were like his grandma's cookies he remembered or maybe it just a small boy's memory of his grandma's kitchen and those after school cookies.
