Grandma's Gingersnaps Recipe

3/4 cup soft shortening
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 egg unbeaten
1/4 cup molasses
2 cups flour
1/4 t. salt
2 T. baking soda
1 t. each ginger, cinnamon, and cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar-shortening-egg until fluffy.
Add molasses and beat well.
Sift dry ingredients together and add; mix well.
Chill dough thoroughly.
Shape into one inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.
Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets.

Bake at 350º for 12-15 minutes.

One of my favorite cookies - these are chewy. (My other favorite ginger cookie, Gingersnaps from Nabisco, are crunchy).
