Grandma Byrnes' Irish Soda Bread Recipe

Ingredients: 6 cups flour 6 t. Baking powder 1 t. Baking soda 1 t. Salt (level) 3/4 cup sugar Approximately 10 oz raisins 2 sticks Fleischmans Margarine caraway seeds to taste (optional) Almost 1 quart buttermilk

Directions: |
Directions:Preheat oven to 350° Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl. Melt margarine and pour into ingredients. Add 3/4 of quart of buttermilk into mixture and mix thoroughly. Add some of the remaining buttermilk into mixture to make the mixture a biscuit consistency (not dry) Make sure all of the flour is thoroughly mixed (no dry pockets) Divide all of the mixture into 3 greased loaf pans. Bake for 45 minutes and then check with a skewer. Place bread loaf onto paper towel and wrap. Wrap loaf loosely in tin foil. Keep sides of foil open to allow cooling. When cool wrap ends to seal. |
