3 ½ c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 pkg. yeast
¼ c. warm water
¾ c. sour cream
1 whole egg plus 2 yolks, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
sugar as directed

Directions:
Directions:
Mix flour and salt in bowl. Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in warm water, and add to flour mixture with eggs, sour cream, and vanilla, stirring well to combine.
Cover with damp cloth and chill 2 hours or up to 24 hours. Divide in ½,and roll into 8x16 in. rectangle. Sprinkle generously with sugar. Carefully fold into thirds (one end over the other) Roll this folded piece carefully again into an 8x16 in rectangle and again sprinkle with sugar. Repeat this rolling/sprinkling/folding process one more time. Rotate 90 degrees, and cut into 1 in. strips. Twist ends in opposite directions and place onto ungreased cookie sheets in horseshoe shape, pressing ends down firmly. Repeat with other half of dough. Bake at 375º for 15 min. Cool on rack.

Mom was given this recipe by a fellow teacher when she was teaching 2nd grade. It has long been a family favorite.
