1/2 c.shortening
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
3 c. flour
4 tsp baking powder
1 c. milk
1 tsp vanilla
Raisins, if desired

Filling:
2 tbsp butter
1 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp flour
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c nuts
Directions:
Directions:
Place half the batter in bottom of 9x13 pan, add a layer of filling, then remaining batter.

Bake at 350º 40-50 minutes.

This is isn't a family recipe necessarily, but I have fond memories of having Arlene's coffee cake when Mom and Jo would do her hair in Springdale and West Branch.
