1 cup shortening
2 cups granulated sugar
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1-2 tsp. vanilla extract to taste
Pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Measure dry ingredients: flour, salt,and baking powder set aside. Cream shortening and sugar then add eggs and mix until creamy and light. Have buttermilk in 2 cup container and stir in baking soda. Stir with fork until it rises. Mix alternately with flour mixture. Then add vanilla. Drop on greased cookie sheet and sprinkle the top with colored sugar. Bake for 8 minutes at 350º
